Water can be a highly efficient source of heat.  If your property is located close to the sea, a river lake of free-running stream, IHS can advise on whether it’s possible to use your nearby water resource as a heat source.

Flow rate is an important factor as is water quality and consistency of water supply.

These newly built offices for Hunter Architecture are heated using a nearby small river (or burn if you’re in Scotland!).  The office is two-storey and is approximately 100m².

Heating System
The office is heated using a small 5kW heat pump and linked directly into the underfloor heating rather than a hot water/buffer tank as no hot water is required.

The local burn is the heat source; it flows all year round and in this case, a flow rate of 1 litre per second is required in order to guarantee the heat pump will run.
