Parkway Railway Station, East Midlands

  • Ground Source Heat Pump

Parkway Railway Station claims to be the greenest railway station in the UK. Work began on East Midlands Parkway in Bristol in December 2007 and finished just over a year later.

IHS was asked by the project engineers to design a heat pump system to supply heating and hot water requirements for the waiting room (approximately 100m²) and staff area (about 60m²).  Hot water is required on demand so the system had to be designed accordingly.

Heating and Hot Water System
A 26kW HGL ground source heat pump with 500 litre Hygienik Tank have been installed to ensure constant heat and hot water delivery.  Underfloor heating was installed throughout.  1100m² of ground loop pipe was installed into 11 trenches of 50 metres each.
