Heat Pumps and Hot Water

Modern buildings require less power for heating due to improved building methods and insulation values.  On the other hand, our demand for hot water is increasing all the time.  It is therefore absolutely essential that the water heating capacity of the heat pump equipment is as efficient as possible.

At IHS, when we consider system design, a key concern for us is to ensure a hot water supply which fulfills the occupant requirements in the most efficient way possible. We have put together some guidance notes on hot water uptake and tank sizes which may help explain how factors such as shower heads affect hot water consumption.

The IDM Hygienik Tank is specially designed for integration with the IHS grround, air and water source heat pump range. The Hygienik Tank is a hot water cylinder and thermal store where you can "dump" warm water from any other heat source (eg solar panels, oil/gas boilers, wood, wood chip or wood pellet-burning stoves, asphalt solar collector) to provide a fully integrated heating and hot water system.

IHS also supplies a wide range of other tanks compatible with heat pumps which may be recommended in individual cases. Please view thermal stores and tanks for further information.
