Interest Free Loans For Micro Renewables in Scotland

8 October 2009
We have great news from EST Scotland who have announced that interest-free loans of between £500 and £10,000 are being made available to householders to help improve insulation and install small scale renewables in their homes. Loans are only available for existing residential properties and new builds are not eligible. Installation must be carried out by an MCS-accredited installer. Loans can be combined with grants such as the Home Renewables grant and CERT funding. Applicants must be the home owner or joint owner of the property in question. Loans are not available for properties used solely for business or for leased properties or where only domestic council tax rates apply. In these circumstances, an interest-free loan may be available from the EST small business loans scheme. Properties which are used for mixed residential and business use such as B&B or farmhouse may be eligible if domestic council tax rates are paid and if the size of installation is proportionate to the residential energy requirements.
A maximum of two loans per household may be applied for.
Credit Check
All applicants are subject to a personal credit check; an external credit checking agency will be used to assess the applicants’ financial position.
