Q. What happens if I sell my property?
A. FiT eligibility remains with the installation even if the ownership of the home or generating technology changes. The ownership of the technology transfers to the new owner.
Q. What happens if there's a PV system in my rented property?
A. The landlord and tenant need to arrange the matter between themselves.
Q. Do I need a special meter to claim FiTs?
A. Generation must be metered. FiT payments are made to generators on the basis of metered generation. Meters should be able to measure generation, usage and import. As an interim measure, DECC has announced that for small scale projects, the payment of export tariffs can be estimated (deemed) subject to the following:
- These arrangements will only apply until the finalizing of specifications for smart meters
- These arrangements do not apply if export meters exist already or are provided at the generator's expense.
Q. Can I claim a FiT if my system is not connected to the electricity grid?
A. Yes. You will be eligible – you will need to sign a declaration stating that all the electricity generated on site will be used and not wasted.
